A provocative ground-breaking work that proposes our relationships with billions of animals are basically hostile. With reference to the theories of Foucault, Spivak and Derrida, Wadiwel convincingly argues that anthropocentrism in thought and practice is contingent on and supported by violence. The author also offers crucial insights and suggestions for resisting and disrupting this prevalent power-driven relationship (which he terms ‘violent sovereignty’). A MUST for Cultural Studies/Human-Animal Studies students and scholars. - ANNIE POTTS
