A wonderful indicator of how literary animal studies moves beyond the Anglophone world, Lönngren’s book identifies a distinctly Nordic model of cross-species shape-shifting. By showing how it in some ways resonates with and in others challenges a growing consensus around “the question of the animal,” she underscores the necessity for a comparatist approach in order to keep literary animal studies relevant to wider discussions. - SUSAN McHUGH
