Animal studies work is enlivened by engagements with biological ‘data’, particularly that which is attentive to the politics of data-collecting and what comes to count as data in the first place. Bagemihl’s work is fascinating for its accounts of animal sexualities, and the extents to which some in the field of science try and explain away or heterosexualise the queer lives of animals. - FIONA PROBYN-RAPSEY
