This is short monograph that traces the presence of animals in theatre and performance from cave paintings to contemporary practices. It engages with ethical questions surrounding the presence and representation of animals in these contexts, agency, training, risk, fear, representation, as well as material questions relating to captivity and transportation. It is a study of how animals shape performance and how performance has an impact on how animals are understood and human behaviours and attitudes towards animals are produced in wider societal contexts. - LOURDES OROZCO
