This book provides a useful overview of the relationship between animals and political theory. After an introduction which stresses the central role played by justice in the political theory of animal rights, the book is organised around competing ideological traditions. Most attention is paid to liberalism but there are also chapters exploring the contribution that Marxism, socialism, communitarianism and feminism make to the debate about animals. -ROBERT GARNER
