An early and interesting discussion of the problematic ways in which humans distance themselves from animals, including in particular a discussion of a false opposition between “reason” and “emotion”. This book doesn’t defend either a rights or utilitarian view, but a moderate view on which animals should at least be understood to matter morally. - CLARE PALMER
