Like the Newmyer sourcebook mentioned above, a selection of ancient texts in translation that provide evidence for both animals in the ancient Greco-Roman mind, that is, how the Greeks and Romans thought about animals, and animals in everyday life, so to speak, that is, how the Greeks and Romans encountered and utilized animals in the ancient landscape. For anyone new to animals in the ancient world, Harden’s selection clearly demonstrates that the ethical questions regarding animals and human-animal relationships that we continue to grapple with are ones we have been asking for thousands of years. - SUSAN A.
