This article is a simultaneously annoying and useful piss-take of the changing interests of social history in the 1970s. Recognising the shifts from labour history to women’s history to the history of homosexuality, Phinneas (a pseudonym) writes about what he sees as the ultimate end of this changing discipline: the history of pets: ‘resistance to housebreaking’ becomes the canine equivalent of machine breaking. - ERICA FUDGE
